When you look at our Commodity Portfolio, you will see six categories:

01. Energy, Refinery & Petrochemical Products

05. Industrial Commodities

06. Agricultural Commodities

At first glance, it may simply look like a way of organising different products on a website.

But there is actually a reason behind these six categories.

I did not choose them simply because they are commodities that can be traded. I chose them because, together, they reflect areas of the global economy that I believe are important to energy, food, industry, infrastructure and the transition of economies.

Over the past five years working in commodities, I have come to realise that commodities are much more than physical products moving from one country to another.

They are connected to how economies function.

Energy powers industries and transportation. Fertilisers support food production. Metals are essential for infrastructure, manufacturing and technology. Critical minerals are increasingly important to the energy transition and advanced industries. Industrial commodities support construction and production, while agricultural commodities connect directly to food systems and global trade.

This is the thinking behind JCG’s portfolio.

I wanted JCG to have a portfolio that reflects not only what is commercially relevant today, but also what I see as strategically important to the long-term global economy.

01. Energy, Refinery & Petrochemical Products

This is where JCG’s commodity journey began for me.

My first exposure to commodity trading came through ULSD 10ppm, and energy remains one of the most important areas of the business. From crude oil and refined products to petrochemical feedstocks, these commodities sit at the foundation of modern economic activity.

Fertilisers may not receive the same attention as energy or metals, but they are fundamental to food security.

Urea, NPK and DAP are not simply agricultural products. They are inputs into the global food system. This is why agricultural fertilisers became an important part of JCG’s portfolio.

Copper and aluminium are examples of metals that connect traditional industry with the infrastructure of the future.

They are used across construction, manufacturing, electrical systems, transportation and energy infrastructure. For JCG, Strategic Metals represents commodities at the intersection of industrial demand and long-term economic development.

This category reflects a different part of the commodity landscape — materials that are increasingly important to advanced manufacturing, technology and the energy transition.

It includes materials such as tungsten and other specialised products that have applications beyond traditional commodity markets.

05. Industrial Commodities

Not every strategically important commodity fits neatly into energy, agriculture or critical minerals.

Industrial Commodities gives JCG room to work with materials that support manufacturing, construction, processing and other industrial activities.

06. Agricultural Commodities

Finally, there is agriculture itself.

Coffee, cocoa and other agricultural commodities connect producers, traders and consumers across borders. They also remind me that commodity trading is not only about large industrial systems — it is also about farmers, communities, supply chains and everyday products that people consume.

Six categories. One broader perspective.

For me, these categories are not meant to define every commodity that JCG may ever work with.

Markets change. Supply chains evolve. New opportunities emerge.

But they provide a framework for how I think about commodities today — not only as products to be traded, but as resources connected to energy security, food security, industrial development and the future economy.

That is ultimately what I want JCG’s Strategic Commodity Portfolio to represent.

Essential resources. Global markets. Strategic connections.
